The leading Spanish hospitality chain has announced that, as from next year, it will be looking after operations at the updated, four-star, 468-room beachfront hotel in Estepona, reinforcing its presence on the Costa del Sol.
At the beginning of this May, Meliá Hotels International revealed that it would be taking overhe management of the Atalaya Park Hotel in 2018, following the investment of 18 million euros in a wide-ranging modernisation programme that is set to transform the establishment over the next few months.
Located directly on the beach at the eastern extreme of Estepona’s municipal area, close to the Guadalmina River and the neighbouring area of San Pedro Alcántara in Marbella, the Atalaya Park will become a Sol by Melía destination, one of the hotel chain’s midscale resort brands.
Once completed, the Sol Marbella Atalaya Park will offer guests a total of 468 rooms and suites, six restaurants and bars, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gym, and a children’s club and play area, as well as a whole host of sporting facilities, including a golf practice ground and driving range.
The resort also aims to carve out a niche for itself as a MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) location, a fast-growing tourism industry segment on the Costa del Sol.
According to representatives from the hotel chain: “[Estepona] is one of the most popular destinations on the Mediterranean and, in 2016, beat its record for visitors with the highest number in the last 10 years. With its magnificent coastline and excellent climate, it has a varied tourism offer and is also a paradise for golfers, thanks to the numerous courses in the area.”
