Relocating to Spain

People move to Spain for all sorts of reasons, for work, to start a business, to study abroad. However one reason stands out amongst all others and that is the desire to improve the quality of their lives and their families. Few other countries can offer the standard and quality of life Spain provides.

Having said that, moving to a foreign country (especially one in which you perhaps do not speak the language) can be an overwhelming experience. Finding a home will be at the top of your list no doubt, however there are other considerations which must be considered and which may decide where you decide to live.

Important things to consider:

  • Choose areas within practical commuting distance of schools, facilities and your workplace. If you prefer country living research local schools, many provide excellent educational facilities on your doorstep
  • If you have young children think seriously about placing them in the private or public spanish school system, younger children will often take less than one year to become fluent in the language and this can only ease their and your transition
  • Research schools before you arrive in Spain and make appointments at those schools you deem best qualified to cater for your children’s learning requirements
  • As soon as you arrive apply for your NIE, this is required by law for all persons who have a home, business or work in Spain
