Marbella luxury residential resort La Zagaleta buys Valderrama in Sotogrande for €40 million
La Zagaleta, the Benahavís benchmark for luxury living on the Costa del Sol has just snapped up Sotogrande’s most famous golf course, together with development plots and a real-estate project, in a €40 million deal
On January 7 2016, London-based Zagaleta Ltd. announced the buyout of the Valderrama Group for €40 million, including not only the world-famous Valderrama Golf Club in Sotogrande and the Valderrama trademark, but also various development plots around the course and a brand-new real-estate project – called, inventively, Valderrama 2 – in neighbouring Castellar de la Frontera.
Valderrama’s original 18-hole golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and is widely considered to be one of the best in the world, having hosted the Ryder Cup and the Volvo Masters championships. Valderrama 2 has been designed around an all-new, championship course and the community will be masterplanned by renowned landscape architects.
The new real-estate project at Valderrama 2 will be developed over the next decade, at a cost of around €200 million, and will be managed by the La Zagaleta Group to meet and surpass the same ultra-high-end standards of service as La Zagaleta itself, which is located in the hills of Benahavís, just 15 minutes from Marbella and Puerto Banús.
La Zagaleta has developed during the last quarter of a century into one of the premier residential real-estate developments in Europe. A private, gated community with world-class resort facilities, including two golf courses, an equestrian centre, country club, and even a heliport, it covers 900 hectares and, today, is home to more than 230 prestigious properties valued between €5 and €25 million.
