Celebrity hunting on the Costa del Sol!
If you are considering leaving your home country for the privileged lifestyle of Spain’s wonderful Costa del Sol, you’ll be following in the footsteps of hundreds of celebrities who have already decided to buy second homes here.
Marbella evolved as a luxury Mediterranean destination when the international jet set of the 1950s first discovered it. They congregated around the elegant and now iconic Marbella Club and Puente Romano hotels, where film stars like Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant were regular guests.
This tradition has continued through the generations, from Brigitte Bardot and her peers during the 1960s to Saudi royalty in the 1970s all the way to today’s celebrities, socialites, sportsmen, entertainers and business tycoons. Increasingly, however, people in this category chose to have their own villas, giving shape to exclusive addresses like La Zagaleta, El Madroñal, Sierra Blanca, Los Monteros, Guadalmina and Marbella’s Golden Mile.
Sean Connery, Joan Collins, Gunilla von Bismarck, Alan Sugar, Simon Cowell, Dolph Lundgren, Antonio Banderas, Julio Iglesias, Fabio Capello and Novak Djokovic are just some of the many famous names that own or have owned properties here, while the likes of George Clooney, Eva Longoria, Hugh Grant, Rod Stewart, Vladimir Putin are also rumoured to have beautiful properties in exclusive country clubs such as La Zagaleta and El Madroñal.
Marbella also attracts regular visits from Mariah Carey, Bruce Willis, Paris Hilton and David Beckham, to name a few, and Princes William and Harry like to compete in polo tournaments in Sotogrande – where people such as Glenn Hoddle and former Formula One team owner Eddie Jordan have homes.
More recent visitors to Andalucía have included US First Lady Michelle Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron and UK celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, who based an entire episode of his series Jamie Does Andalucia on the area, as did Cornish chef Rick Stein.
One visit to the Costa del Sol will make it clear why it is so popular – with year-round sunshine, pristine beaches, hundreds of secluded spots and a real chance to live the sort of lifestyle that quite simply cannot be found elsewhere.
